Professional consultation and referral meeting

Referrals and Contact

Let's talk about a young person.

Whether you are a school, a local authority, a social worker or a family member, we are glad to have a conversation before any formal referral is made.

Who can refer?

Schools and academies

School referrals

For students who are on roll but require an alternative provision placement, or who have been permanently excluded and need a supported next step. We work in partnership with the referring school throughout the placement.

Referrals are accepted year-round. We ask for a brief summary of the young person's background and current situation before arranging an initial visit.

Local authority and NEET teams

Local authority referrals

For post-16 young people who are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET. We work with Leeds City Council and surrounding local authorities to provide structured re-engagement and vocational pathways.

We can accept referrals directly from NEET teams, virtual school heads, social workers and other statutory professionals.

Young people and families

Direct enquiries

Young people and their families are welcome to contact us directly. We will have an honest conversation about whether Northwell is the right fit and, if not, help identify what might be.

No referral form is needed for an initial conversation. Just get in touch.

What happens next

01

Initial conversation

We speak with the referrer and, where possible, the young person to understand their situation and whether Northwell is likely to be a good fit.

02

Visit and assessment

The young person visits Northwell to meet staff and see the environment. This is informal. It is as much about them deciding if they want to be here as it is about us.

03

Placement agreement

We agree a start date, timetable and any specific support requirements with the referrer, the young person and their family or carer.

04

Start and review

The young person begins their programme. We review progress regularly and keep all relevant parties informed throughout.
